Welcome to Quantitative Baseball! I’m Kai Franke the founder of the site and today, I’m going to give an overview of what this site is going to be about and the reasons why I am doing it.
I am a high school student from Minnesota and have loved baseball my whole life, and have also started loving the analytics and player development side of the game recently. My initial interest sparked me for analytics when I saw the movie “Moneyball” with the fictional character Peter Brand getting a job in baseball using math and statistics to build a ball club. Playing with numbers was my thing and I realized that there was a possible way for me to get a job in baseball without even having to play. So, over the past couple of years, I have acquainted myself with much of the new data and analytics that are offered.
These stats have evolved over the years and have led to a new era of player development that is now starting to dominate the game. You hear about players magically becoming elite or turning around their careers, such as Max Muncy, Trevor Bauer, Gerrit Cole, and the list goes on. This comes back to the data-driven development that baseball is now today.
On this site, I am going to display the knowledge I have gained by posting about analytics, player development/pitch design, player reports, and even just talking about news around baseball in general. I want to spread this knowledge to all of you and help you guys gain a better idea about what all of these new analytics and ideas are, as well as letting you in on my opinions about any of it.
I really hope what I have to share is intriguing and interesting for you guys, and throughout these posts, I hope there is something for everybody to learn and get better at! Thank you for looking at the site and let’s get this thing going!
